Is your Dyson actually cleaning your air?

We looked at the independent test data. Here is what it shows.

In brief

  • Independent labs show the Dyson TP07 takes 62 minutes to clean a standard room. A purpose-built H13 HEPA purifier does the same job in 17 minutes.
  • Dyson does not publish a standard particulate CADR. It uses a proprietary in-house test not matched to any global standard: AHAM, IEC or GB/T.
  • Dyson's own Chinese website names the TP07 an "air purification fan" (空气净化风扇). JD.com lists it under electric fans, not air purifiers. This is how Dyson positions it where regulation applies.
  • The design prioritises elegant airflow over raw filtration throughput. That is a legitimate product, just not one optimised for India's PM2.5 load.

What is CADR, and why does it matter?

Clean Air Delivery Rate is the global benchmark for air purifier performance: it measures clean air output per hour (m³/hr), independently tested under AHAM, GB/T or IEC standards. Think of it as km/l for air purifiers: it lets you compare machines on equal terms.

Dyson's own test method: POLAR

Dyson uses a proprietary in-house testing method called POLAR. It is not matched to any recognised global standard: AHAM, IEC or GB/T, and it has not been independently verified by any third-party body. Direct comparison with other brands is not possible on equal terms. Dyson acknowledges this on its own website (dyson.com).

How China classifies the TP07

China's national standard GB/T 18801-2022 requires air purifiers to publish independently verified particulate CADR. Dyson does not. Dyson's own Chinese website (dyson.cn) names the TP07:

风扇 means fan. JD.com, China's largest e-commerce platform, lists the TP07 under 电风扇 (electric fan), separate from certified air purifiers. This is how Dyson officially positions the product where regulation applies.

Our honest take

If you own a Dyson, you own a very good fan. If you paid ₹45,000–₹70,000 expecting the fastest air purification for Indian conditions, the independent data says a purpose-built purifier engineered for CADR would outperform it significantly. That is all this is.

Does Dyson publish a certified CADR rating?
